Out east to LS15
We come along the A64 or round the Ring Road and Cross Gates is about ten miles out. Station Road, Austhorpe Road, the shopping centre car parks and the estates towards Manston are all inside our standard area.
Cross Gates is a commuter area, and that shapes the work. Cars sit at the station all day while their owners are in Leeds, York or London, which is where a lot of keys actually get lost.
Station car parks and lost keys
The pattern is always the same. The key goes missing somewhere in a city an hour away, and the car is sat in a station car park with no way of getting into it. Recovery is expensive, and a dealer wants the car brought to them, which is difficult without a key.
We come to the station car park and produce a new key at the vehicle, usually within the hour of arriving. Bring photo ID and something showing you keep the car, and tell us the bay when you call.
What else we get called to
- Boot lockouts at Cross Gates Shopping Centre, opened with non-destructive entry
- Spare keys for commuter cars, which is the obvious answer to the station problem, booked as a planned visit
- Keys snapped in doors on colder mornings, needing extraction
- Fobs that stop working in the cold, which is often a battery or contact repair
- Cars that will not start after standing all week, usually a security fault rather than a mechanical one
What to expect
| Problem | Typical fix |
|---|---|
| Key lost away from home | New key made at the station car park |
| Locked out | Entry without damage |
| Fob dead in the cold | Battery, contacts or resyncing |
| Only one key | Spare cut and programmed at home |
Our route into Cross Gates
We take the Ring Road round or run out on the A64 and come in at the Station Road end. The shopping centre, the station, Austhorpe Road and the estates towards Manston are all close together once we are in LS15.
It is about ten miles from Stanningley. The Ring Road at peak is the only thing that pushes it out, and if that is the case we will say so on the phone. For station jobs, the bay number is worth having ready, because the car parks are large and cars all look similar at the far end of a wet Tuesday.
A typical call-out in Cross Gates
Someone gets the train into Leeds, or down to London, and the key goes missing at the other end of the day. They arrive back at Crossgates station at half nine at night to a car that cannot be opened, with the last bus already gone.
We meet them in the car park. Photo identification plus insurance or the V5C on a phone is enough to confirm the car is theirs, then we open it, read the key code and program a new key at the vehicle. They drive home that night. The alternative is recovery to a dealer, a taxi home and a week without the car, at several times the cost.
Nearby areas we cover from Cross Gates
The same run covers Manston, Whitkirk, Austhorpe, Colton and the edges of Seacroft and Garforth.
For station work, have the bay number and your paperwork ready before we arrive. It turns a job that could take an hour and a half into one that takes an hour, which matters when it is already late and you want to be home.

How quickly can you get to Cross Gates?
About ten miles from Stanningley. We give you a live ETA on the call rather than a standard answer.
Can you come to the station car park?
Yes, it is one of our regular call-outs. Tell us the bay number when you ring.
I lost my key in London and my car is here. What now?
We come to the car, read the key code and program a new key on site. There is no need to recover the vehicle anywhere.
Do you cover Manston, Whitkirk and Austhorpe?
Yes, along with the rest of LS15.
Should a commuter carry a spare?
Ideally the spare stays at home rather than in the same bag as the original. It turns a very expensive day into a mildly annoying one.
Do you come out at night?
Yes, 24 hours a day, every day.
Is there a call-out fee?
No. You get one agreed price before we travel.
Do I need my V5C with me at the station?
A photo of it on your phone is normally fine, along with photo ID. We will tell you on the call what we need.
Do you cover Whitkirk and Colton?
Yes, along with the rest of LS15.
