What SERMI is

SERMI stands for the Scheme for Evaluating and Recognising the qualification of independent operators to access vehicle security related repair and maintenance information. It is the European framework that decides which independent businesses can be trusted with manufacturer security data.

Without it, an independent locksmith is locked out of the manufacturer systems that modern key and immobiliser work depends on. With it, we can do the job the same way a franchised dealer does, at your car instead of in their workshop.

What it took to get it

• An independent audit of the business and how it operates
• Criminal record checks on the people doing the work
• Proof of insurance and of the right equipment
• Documented processes for verifying that a customer actually owns the vehicle
• Ongoing compliance, because accreditation is renewed rather than granted once

Why it matters to you

Car keys are the one trade where the customer should be asking awkward questions. Anybody who can make a key for your car can, in principle, make a key for somebody else's.

Accreditation means an independent body has checked who we are, that our identity checks are real and that our work is traceable. It is also why we will always ask you for ID and proof you keep the vehicle, on every single job, including lost key replacement and key deletion.
